Alright, so the other day I was messing around and decided to remake a YSL College bag. Yeah, the fancy one, like they sell at those high-end stores. I’ve always been a bit of a DIY guy, and I figured, why not give it a shot? Plus, I was a little bored.
I started by looking up a bunch of stuff about these bags. Turns out, they used to just call it Yves Saint Laurent, but now it’s just Saint Laurent. These bags are seriously expensive, and I found out they’ve been around forever. Like, they started making ready-to-wear stuff way back in 1966. That’s a long time ago! They even made a tuxedo for women, called Le Smoking. Pretty cool, huh?
So, I gathered my materials. I didn’t use real leather or anything, just some fabric I had lying around. The most important thing I needed to find was something for that CASSANDRE logo thingy they put on the front. I ended up using a piece of shiny metal that I cut and shaped to look kind of like it. It wasn’t perfect, but it did the trick.
The bag itself is kind of like an envelope, so it’s not super complicated to put together. But those darn YSL bags are quilted, and let me tell ya, that took forever. I stitched and stitched until my fingers were sore. The mini version of the COLLEGE bag is chevron-quilted, and, man, that’s a lot of stitching. Anyway, I finally got it all sewed up, and it actually looked pretty decent.
I even found some info about where they hide those date codes in the real bags. They say it’s usually on an interior leather tag or debossed on the material somewhere inside. I didn’t bother with that, though. It’s not like I’m trying to sell this thing.
Here are the things I noticed and steps I took during this little project:
- Looked up info: First, I had to see what these bags were all about.
- Gathered stuff: Found some fabric and a metal piece for the logo.
- Cut and shaped: Made the fake logo look somewhat like the real one.
- Sewed a ton: Quilted the fabric, which was a real pain.
- Skipped the date code: Didn’t bother with that detail.
Anyway, it was a fun little project. I learned a lot about these YSL College bags, and I got to use my hands to make something. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine. I guess if you’re really into these bags, you could try to remake one yourself. Just be prepared to spend a lot of time sewing. Or, you know, you could just buy a used one. They say you can find them online.
I don’t know why these bags cost so much. They say it’s because of the heritage, quality, and exclusivity. Plus, they have to adjust the prices because of material costs and labor. Whatever. I’m just glad I didn’t spend a fortune on this thing. It was a fun way to kill some time, and now I have a kind-of YSL College bag. I might even use it sometime, who knows.
So, there ya go. That’s my story about remaking a YSL College bag. It was a bit of a hassle, but it was worth it. Now, I’m off to find my next project. Maybe I’ll try to remake a whole tuxedo next time, ha! Just kidding… unless?
