Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon” watch for a while now. It’s a tribute to the Apollo 8 mission, you know, the first manned mission to orbit the moon back in ’68. Pretty historical stuff. I finally pulled the trigger and got my hands on a replica – the “original order” version, as they call it.
First off, the unboxing was an experience. The box itself felt premium, and when I opened it, there it was. This thing is a looker. All black, ceramic case, with a 44.25mm size that feels just right on my wrist. Not too bulky, not too small. It’s got this sporty vibe, but it’s classy enough that I could probably wear it with a suit if I wanted to.
I spent the first few hours just examining the details. The skeletonized dial is pretty wild – you can see the movement inside, which is supposed to be a nod to the lunar surface. They even etched the far side of the moon on the back, which is a nice touch. I wound it up and set the time. The chronograph function is smooth as butter. I timed my coffee brewing just for kicks.
- Wore it to work the next day. Got a couple of “nice watch” comments, which is always a good feeling.
- Took it out for a spin on the weekend. Felt great to wear it while doing yard work.
- Even took a dip in the pool with it. No issues there, it is water-resistant after all.
I’ve been wearing it for a few weeks now, and I’m really digging it. It’s definitely a conversation starter. People are curious about the Apollo 8 connection, and I get to tell them a bit of the history. A real classic with a good history which always hold their value well.
It’s a solid replica. Feels well-made, keeps good time, and looks awesome. If you’re into space stuff or just want a cool, unique watch, I’d say it’s worth checking out. It is a gimmicky but fun watch.
Final thoughts
This watch is a winner. It’s a great blend of history, style, and function. I’m glad I added it to my collection. No regrets here!
