Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with the YSL College bag for like, forever. It’s just so darn classy, you know? But the price tag? Ouch. So, I thought, “Why not try to make one myself?” Yeah, I know, sounds crazy, but I was determined!

First, I spent hours, and I mean HOURS, looking at pictures of the bag online. I wanted to get every little detail right. I zoomed in on the stitching, the hardware, the way the leather looked – everything.

  • I ordered some good-quality black leather. I mean you have to use the leather.
  • And I found a chain strap that looked pretty similar to the original one.
  • Also, I bought some quilting tools. The bag has this signature quilted pattern, so I had to figure out how to do that.

Then came the hard part. I started by cutting out the leather pieces. I made a rough pattern based on the measurements I could estimate from photos. Let me tell you, cutting leather is not as easy as it looks. You need a really sharp knife and a steady hand.

Next, I tried my hand at quilting. This was a whole new world for me. I practiced a bit on some scrap leather until I got the hang of it. The College bag has this diamond-shaped quilting, so I carefully marked out the pattern on the leather and started sewing.

Once the quilting was done, I began assembling the bag. This involved a lot of hand-stitching. I’m not gonna lie, my fingers were pretty sore after a while. But seeing the bag take shape was so satisfying.

The final step was adding the hardware and the chain strap. This was probably the easiest part, but it really made the bag look complete. When I was finally done, I just stood there, staring at it. I couldn’t believe I had actually made it!

It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few little imperfections here and there. But you know what? I’m super proud of it. It’s my own little version of the YSL College bag, and I made it with my own two hands. And honestly, it turned out way better than I expected. I already tried it with a black dress. It looks amazing. It took me the whole last week to get this done, but it was totally worth it. I feel so accomplished!
