So, I was trying to make a perfect copy of a Fendi Brown Zucchino Mama Forever Baguette Shoulder Bag. Yeah, it’s a mouthful, but this bag is seriously stylish.
First, I studied the original like crazy. It’s made of this Fendi Zucca canvas in tobacco brown, really nice stuff. I spent hours looking at pictures online, trying to get every detail right. eBay, Poshmark, you name it, I was there. I even found some listings for the real deal, but they were going for like $700 to over $1000! And some were even up to $9,999! Crazy, right?
Then I started hunting for materials. I needed that specific Zucca canvas. I searched everywhere, online fabric stores, local shops, no luck. Finally, I found something similar, not exactly the same, but close enough. I also needed some chocolate brown leather for the strap. That was easier to find, thankfully. And the hardware, that shiny gold-tone stuff, I managed to find some replicas online that looked pretty good.
Next, the actual crafting part. I’m not a pro sewer, let me tell you. But I dusted off my old sewing machine and got to work. I followed the general shape of the Baguette, that iconic flap, and the single adjustable strap. I used the measurements I could find online and kind of winged it for the rest.
There was a lot of trial and error. I messed up the stitching a few times, had to rip it out and start over. The leather was tricky to work with, especially attaching the strap. I watched some YouTube videos on leatherworking, which helped a bit. And don’t even get me started on the lining! I opted for a simple satin lining, nothing fancy, because, honestly, I was getting tired of sewing at that point!
Finally, after days of work, I had something that resembled the Fendi Baguette. It wasn’t perfect, definitely not a 1:1 copy, but I was pretty proud of it. It had that same overall vibe, the brown canvas, the leather strap, the gold-tone hardware. It was my own little (and much cheaper!) version of the famous bag.
- Materials sourced: Similar Zucca canvas, chocolate brown leather, gold-tone hardware replicas, satin lining.
- Process involved: Studying the original design, pattern drafting, sewing (lots of it!), leatherworking, and a healthy dose of patience.
- Challenges faced: Finding the right materials, mastering the sewing machine, working with leather, and keeping my sanity intact.
- Result achieved: A handmade shoulder bag inspired by the Fendi Brown Zucchino Mama Forever Baguette, with a similar look and feel, but at a fraction of the cost.
It was a fun project, although super challenging at times. But now I have a cool new bag, and I learned a lot about sewing and bag making along the way. Plus, I can tell everyone I made it myself, which is pretty awesome!
I’m thinking of trying to make more “inspired” bags in the future. Maybe I can get it down to $124.00 with a 20% off discount like the website I found. But for now, I’m going to enjoy my Fendi-ish Baguette. Who knows, maybe I’ll even start a trend!
